Water For Humans Launches Social Enterprise to Bring Clean Drinking Water Technology to Developing World

MBA project becomes reality as Bainbridge Graduate Institute grads address one of the most pressing global health issues – access to clean drinking water

SEATTLE – Water for Humans, a non-profit social enterprise, launches their pilot project in July to bring low-cost, safe drinking water to two communities in Oaxaca, Mexico – Guadalupe Etla and Santo Domingo Barrio Bajo Etla. By creating partnerships within communities and training local entrepreneurs to install water purifiers, Water for Humans provides families, schools, health clinics and restaurants with a low-cost alternative to purchasing bottled drinking water.

Water for Humans began as a graduate school project by Stan Brown and Rick McKenney at Bainbridge Graduate Institute, an innovative MBA in Sustainable Business program. After graduation they founded Water for Humans as a non-profit social enterprise.

"Over a billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water. It’s one of the leading causes of illness worldwide," says Stan Brown, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Water for Humans. "Our goal is to address this issue watershed by watershed delivering low-cost, clean water technology while creating jobs and a self-supporting social enterprise."

Water for Humans recognizes the critical need of ensuring safe drinking water today and in the future. Working to create access to potable water while also supporting clean water in the future through watershed restoration. “This initial project is designed to deploy water filter systems, build support for watershed restoration and to begin building the funds to support our long term mission,” says co-founder and Executive Director Rick McKenney.

Water for Humans is currently raising funds for their pilot project. Each project is designed to be self-sustaining after the initial project is established in each location.
